The god of the last thing in the box

  • Reading: The Amber Spyglass
  • Watching: Doctor Who

  • Eating: cranberries

I am firmly of the opinion that there is a god of the last food items in boxes. For instance, you take the last tortilla out of its package and just cram it down your throat because you are running 20 minutes late on a day you told yourself you needed to leave 30 minutes early and you are starving. This displeases the gods of last-thing-in-boxes. They feel the last thing deserves respect, and the credibility that comes from a life of clinging to the box while all other of its kind are eaten. The gods of the last-thing-in-box show this displeasure by summoning someone to say "Hey! I was going to eat that tortilla! Now I have no lunch! Jerk!" (it is best if you live with this person, but the gods are willing to summon any stranger of the street)

But, if you take that last tortilla, and saute some onions with red pepper and basil, cook some black beans and shred cheese, tear up lettuce you just pulled from your garden, and crush your own spices, all is well, and the gods are delighted. Then, they will summon up someone who will compliment how nice you look, and bring you ice cream.
